- Visit the beaches in Rameshwaram – Being an island town, Rameshwaram has a lot of beaches. Right from isolated beaches for peace and solitude to water sports, windsurfing, and parasailing, etc.
- Visit the Kalam House Museum – This museum documents the life of India’s most loved President APJ Abdul Kalam. His house has been converted into a museum with souvenirs available for sale too.
- Visit the Ghost Town of Dhanushkodi – This was a flourishing trade town in the 1960s that was wiped clean by a cyclone in 1964. Subsequently, this thin strip of land submerged under seawater and the Indian government declared it unfit for inhabitation – a ghost town.
- Go Kite Surfing – Rameshwaram is one of the best kite surfing destinations in India.
- Bird Watching – There are many bird sanctuaries around Rameshwaram that are home to numerous migratory birds. The months from October to March are the best for spotting rare and unique birds.

The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of India’s twelve jyotirlinga temples.
Jada Tritham Temple
- Temple History & Interesting Facts – This temple is located at a distance of around 3 kilometers from the Ramanathaswamy Temple. It has a mythological sacred pond where it is believed that Lord Rama washed his hair before worshipping Lord Shiva.
- Temple timings – The temple is open for devotees throughout the week from 6 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 8 PM.
- Dress code – Ethnic traditional clothes
- Best time to visit – The Hindu festivals of Ramnavami and Shivratri are the best time to visit this temple.
Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple
- Temple History & Interesting Facts – It is located at a distance of around 2 kilometers from the Ramanathaswamy Temple. According to legends, this temple was built at the place where Lord Hanuman revealed the secret about his five faces. There is a floating stone in the temple that is said to be from Sethu Bandhanam.
- Temple Timings – The temple is open throughout the week from 6 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM.
- Dress code – There is no specific dress code for the temple but it is advisable to wear Indian clothes.
- Best time to visit – Hanuman Jayanti is a great time to visit the temple. You can also visit on Saturdays or during other Hindu festivals.
Dhanushkodi Temple
- Temple History & Interesting Facts – It is located in the small town of Dhanushkodi. It is nestled by the sea. Although in ruins, it attracts many pilgrims throughout the year due to several mentions in the epic Ramayana.
- Temple Timings – The temple is open throughout the week from 6 AM to 7 PM.
- Dress code – There is no specific dress code for the temple but it is advisable to wear simple clothes. Jeans are not allowed.
- Best time to visit – You can visit the temple during any Hindu festival.
